Monday Mini Retreat Programs begin with a meal in our dining room at 6:00 p.m. Following the meal, we meet in our main conference room for prayer and a presentation. There is time for discussion before the closing prayer at 9:00 p.m. Registration begins in the lobby at 5:15 p.m.
April 10, 2017: “Where Is Our Humor? Have We Lost It?”
The word “humor” comes from the same Latin root word as “humanity” and “human.”
“Humus” is the Latin word that is translated as soil, dirt, ground, etc. We are grounded in
humanity and that should provide us with a sense of humor if only to remind us that when
we try to “play” God, we are as funny as our first parents, Adam and Eve, when they reached
for and ate that piece of fruit. Keep a sense of humor and live as children of God.
Presenter: Jeanne Hunt Register
September 18, 2017: “Daring To Be Different: Daring To Be Ourselves”
Isn’t it true that we compete with others and compare ourselves with others? To what end? God made
us to be who we are; that was good enough for God, so why isn’t it good enough for us? Becoming
our best selves is what God asks us to do, even if that means being different from what others expect
us to be. Do we dare do that? Presenter: Dr. Carmina Chapp Register
October 16, 2017: “Feasting On The Spiritual Life”
Among the many sources of spiritual foods we can access is Christ-centered literature—essays, poems, novels—many of which are written not mainly to entertain but to inspire and motivate us to spiritual growth. Our presenter this evening will introduce us to some of this wealth of inspiration found in the literary works of 20th century Christian writers. Presenter: Gerry Grossman Register
November 20, 2017: “Becoming Healers And Hope-Givers”
When Jesus sent out his disciples to continue His mission of proclaiming the Good News, He told them to teach, and bring healing and peace to all who would listen. This is the mission we receive at Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The whole human family cries out for hope, healing, and peace, and when we offer these gifts, paradoxically, we receive them in return. Presenters: Diane Rice and Karen Reeseman Register
December 11, 2017: “Enjoying Life: The Spirit Of Christmas”
Someone once said that the best way to show thanks to God is to enjoy the gift of life that He gives us. If we do not “enter into the joy” of life, we miss out on a lot of goodness, beauty, truth, and happiness. Our mini-retreat this month seeks to help us see and experience the joy that is ours when we enter fully into the life God gives us, especially in the Incarnation of His Son Jesus. Come and enjoy the spirit of Christmas!
